Power & Rocket Yoga

I started practicing Ashtanga at a young age in Malaysia (my earliest memory of yoga was sitting next to my mom’s yoga mat in class when I was around 4, then my own practice started when I was around 14). I came to London in 2012 to pursue higher education and have explored many styles of yoga since. I eventually found my passion in the more dynamic nature of Power and Rocket Yoga around 2015 when I started practicing at Triyoga Chelsea.

I completed the 200hr Power Yoga Teacher Training at The Power Yoga Company in 2020, and have continued to practice regularly as a student to deepen my personal practice. I also completed 75hr of Rocket Yoga TT in 2022 with Amber Jean and Amme Poulton, both direct students of Larry Schultz, the creator of the Rocket system.

Power and Rocket Yoga both originated from the traditional Ashtanga system. Power Yoga distinguishes from Ashtanga in that it does not stick to a set sequence, which makes it a creative and diverse practice to do. The Rocket sequence was designed by Larry, as a variation/modification to the Ashtanga sequence, to make yoga more accessible. The main features of Rocket Yoga are its fast-paced, dynamic style and its emphasis on inversions and arm balances, but at the same time to also remind practitioners to “not take it too seriously” (you don’t have to put your leg behind your head to be a yogi!).

I started teaching in-studio classes in 2023 and have found my passion in passing on the practice that has held me through all phases of my life for the past decades. My classes are designed to encompass both Power and Rocket styles in a flowing, meditative way to enable synchronization of breaths and movements. All of my classes are open levels where students are given options to modify at all times but also given opportunities to try advanced poses like arm balances and inversions.

I am currently based in London and I regularly practice at Mission E1. I teach in-person classes exclusively at Nuffield Health Granta Park, where I also work full-time as a scientist. I have been told that my yoga playlist is amazing. Join me to find out (or ask me for my Spotify playlist)!
